AB 1398 ULTRA 100 Series Drives 

Preface

Intended Use: For those responsible for designing, installing, programming, or troubleshooting ULTRA 100 Series products.

Purpose of this manual: To serve as a user's guide to introduce the ULTRA 100 Series products and to describe the installation, setup, use, and troubleshooting procedures.


Product Acceptance and Storage Responsibility: The user is responsible for inspecting the equipment upon receipt and addressing any damage; the equipment should be stored in a suitable environment.

Technical Support: Rockwell Automation provides global support services. Users may contact their local representative for technical training, warranty, and other support.

Manual Content and Structure: The manual contains chapters on safety, installation, interfaces, and application examples, as well as an introduction to symbols and typographical conventions.


Safety

Potential hazards: The equipment is intended for use in industrial drive systems where there is a risk of electric shock, electrical fire, mechanical injury and energy storage, without chemical or ionising radiation hazards.

Voltage hazard: DC busbar capacitors may retain dangerous voltages after disconnection, measure the voltage or wait for a specified period of time before operation.

User Responsibility: The user is responsible for determining the suitability of the product, following safety guidelines, and having the equipment operated and maintained by qualified personnel.

General safety guidelines: These include proper installation of electrical equipment, prevention of mechanical hazards, avoidance of energy storage hazards, etc., with emphasis on precautions during operation.


Unpacking, inspection and storage

Unpacking and Inspection: Check the appearance of the equipment after unpacking and check the list, if there is any damage or performance problems, contact the relevant parties in time.

Testing steps: Connect the motor, PC and other devices to carry out functional testing, including hardware setup, initial power-up, communication verification and initial drive operation.

Storage Requirements: Return the equipment to its original packaging and store it in a clean, dry environment with suitable temperature and humidity.

Select Additional System Components

Drive Overview: ULTRA 100 Series drives feature microcontrollers with integrated functionality and are available in a variety of power levels to provide specific torque ranges.

Interfaces and Functionality: Supports a wide range of analogue and digital interfaces, command sources, encoder control, multiple protection circuits, and more, all configurable through ULTRA Master software.

Compatible components: Compatible with a variety of motors, such as Allen-Bradley's F, H series, etc., can also be connected to custom motors; also provides a variety of optional accessories.

European Union Requirements: Drives comply with relevant European directives, but require AC line filters and factory-authorised cable connections to the motor.


ULTRA Master Installation

Hardware and Software Requirements: Requires a PC with a specific configuration such as DOS 286 microprocessor, Windows 3.1, etc.

Installation Procedure: Back up the installation disc, run the installer, select the installation path and complete the installation.

Startup and Exit: ULTRA Master can be started and exited from the command line or from a Windows program group.

Version and Documentation: You can view the software version, including the README file and firmware file.


Installation

Mechanical Installation Requirements: Select the appropriate mounting location and protection level, ensure adequate space for heat dissipation, and meet other environmental requirements.

Interface Connection: Detailed description of J1, J2, J5 interface connection methods, including digital I/O power supply, control signals, encoder signals and serial communication connections.

Power connection: Explain the connection methods of AC power supply, motor power supply and DC bus, as well as wire specifications and grounding requirements.

Electromagnetic compatibility: Complies with the European EMC Directive and requires the use of factory-supplied cables and AC line filters and proper grounding.


Interfaces

J1 Controller Interface: Describes the J1 interface pin definitions, digital and analogue input and output signal specifications, circuit examples and optional features.

J2 Encoder Interface: Describes the pinout of the J2 interface, which is used to connect to the motor encoder to ensure proper signal connections.

J5 Serial Port Interface: Supports RS-232 and RS-485 communication standards and introduces pin definitions, communication settings, and multi-driver connection methods.


Power Connection

Motor Power Wiring: Introduces motor power connection terminals, cable selection, and shield grounding methods.

AC Power Wiring: Describes AC power input requirements, terminal connections, and fuse selection.
