AB 1757-SRM ProcessLogix and ControlLogix System Redundancy Module

Safety-related Precautions

Operation in Hazardous Environments: This module is suitable for use in certain hazardous locations (Class I Division 2 Groups A, B, C, D and non-hazardous locations). When operating in these environments, be sure to disconnect the power or confirm that the area is safe before connecting, disconnecting, or replacing the components, otherwise serious accidents, such as explosions, may occur.

Static electricity protection: The module is sensitive to static electricity. When operating, touch a grounded object to discharge static electricity, wear a grounded wrist strap, and avoid touching connectors, pins, and internal circuit components. When conditions permit, use an electrostatic safe workstation and store the equipment in an anti-static package when not in use.

Electrical Safety: Plugging and unplugging a module under power can cause an electric arc that not only damages the module and connectors, but can also cause an explosion in a hazardous location. Therefore, when installing or removing a module in a hazardous location, make sure that the power is off or that the area is free of hazards. Also, be sure that the module relay terminals are powered in compliance with UL and CE standards and that the line voltage of the external DC power supply is the same as the power supply powering the SRM chassis.

Installation and Equipment Requirements

Environmental conditions: This equipment is intended for use in industrial environments in pollution degree 2, overvoltage category II applications at altitudes up to 2000 metres above sea level. Use in other environments may present electromagnetic compatibility problems. The device is open and needs to be installed in a suitable enclosure that is flame retardant, has a protection rating of at least IP54 (in Class I, Zone 2 environments) and has internal live parts that are accessible with tools.

Equipment compatibility: The redundant system components must be identical, including the order of the primary and secondary control chassis and their internal modules, as well as the firmware versions of all modules. Otherwise, the 1757-SRM module will not allow the secondary chassis to mate with the primary chassis.

Installation Procedure Considerations

Pre-installation: Before installation, familiarise yourself with the operation of the module and learn about the redundancy system and redundancy media. Prepare the required components, such as the specific chassis, power supply, and fibre optic cables, and follow the appropriate installation instructions for installing and connecting the ControlLogix chassis and power supply. Determine the module mounting slots in the chassis; different chassis models have different recommended slots.

Installation Procedure: When connecting the fiber optic cable, connect one end to the module's fiber optic port before installing the module . When mounting the module, ensure that the board is aligned with the chassis guides and slide in smoothly so that it is flush with the other mounting modules. If a user relay is used, connect the wires to the detachable terminal block after passing them through the ferrite core and plug them into the relay terminals, taking care to operate with the power off to avoid arcing.

System Configuration and Upgrade: After assembling the chassis, specify the primary chassis and qualify the system to ensure that all module pairs have compatible firmware versions. Before specifying a primary chassis, flash upgrade the factory boot firmware of the 1757-SRM module. When upgrading the module firmware, the programmes and data in the device should be backed up, as the upgrade will overwrite the original data.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND SAFETY NOTICE: Solid-state devices have different characteristics than electromechanical devices. Ensure that the application meets the requirements before using the device and Rockwell Automation will not be responsible for consequential damages. Document examples are for reference only and may not be reproduced without permission. The manual contains a variety of cautionary statements to alert the user to the dangers of explosion, static electricity, electric shock, and burns, as well as the potential for damage to equipment and injury or death from mishandling. This equipment is intended for use in specific hazardous locations and is to be operated and maintained in accordance with relevant safety regulations, such as operating without power and using qualified components.

Module Overview and Preparation for Installation: 1757 - SRM Series B Modules for ProcessLogix or ControlLogix Redundant Chassis Pairs require knowledge of module operation, redundancy systems, and protection against static electricity prior to installation. Prior to installation, prepare the required components, install and connect the ControlLogix chassis and power supply, identify the module mounting slots, and match the redundant system components, including the chassis and module firmware versions.

Installation and Usage: To assemble the redundant system, assemble two identical chassis, connect the fibre optic cables, and install the modules, taking care to avoid energising the system during installation. If a user relay is used, it must be wired to a detachable terminal block and plugged into the relay terminals. Modules can be installed or removed under power but at some risk. Modules can be reset by cycling power to the chassis or by plugging or unplugging the module. To remove a module, follow the specific procedure and replace the module in its original slot.

Module Status and Troubleshooting: The module has a variety of status indicators, such as module status, health status, communication status and chassis status indicators, which indicate the module's operating status and fault conditions through different displays and colours. Faults are classified into four categories and recorded in the event log, which can be viewed through the module's four-character status display, and corresponding measures, such as reset and replacement of the module, are taken according to different fault types.

Specification and certification information: The module has specific specifications in terms of electrical, physical and environmental aspects, including backplane current, size, weight, mounting method, temperature code, power requirements, insulation resistance, etc . A variety of certifications, such as UL, CSA, FM, CE, etc., are available to comply with relevant standards for use in different regions and environments.

Resources and Contacts: Technical documentation resources are available for review and download on our website, or in paper form by contacting your local distributor or sales representative Rockwell Automation provides web-based and telephone support, and product returns and exchanges are available in accordance with established procedures.
