7. Core functions dedicated to industrial control

(1) Two level programmable watchdog WDT

-Timing gear: selectable between 1-255 seconds or 1-255 minutes;

-Two level protection logic: timeout triggers NMI unshielded interrupt first, and if there is no dog feeding, the entire machine hardware is reset; The register can read the reset source and distinguish between watchdog restart and normal power on;

-Provide 8086 assembly low-level configuration example code, paired with DOS/Windows testing tools.

(2) SMBus system hardware monitoring

Based on the I2C bus, real-time monitoring of various power supply voltages, CPU/chassis temperatures, three-way fan speeds, and chassis lid opening events; The power failure of the lid opening signal can be locked, and the alarm needs to be cleared by software.

(3) Reset dual mechanism

-Hard reset: Cut off all peripheral clocks and restart the entire machine completely;

-Soft reset: Only reset the CPU core, keep external devices such as hard drives/network cards running;

Reset source: panel reset button CTRL+ALT+DEL、 Watchdog, ICH2 register instruction.

Jumper and hardware configuration

The whole machine only has one set of core jumper JP1: clear CMOS (2-3 short circuited for 2 seconds to clear BIOS settings, 1-2 is in normal mode);

All other functions (serial port mode, video memory size, boot options, interrupt allocation) are configured in the Award Phoenix BIOS software;

BIOS Settings Overview

Complete driver step-by-step installation

The supporting driver CD supports Windows 95/98/ME/NT4.0/2000/XP, and is divided into three categories of drivers for complete installation process:

Intel 845 chipset INF driver: To repair PCI/AGP resources, it must be installed first and provide a one click setup program;

2. SiS305 graphics card driver: divided into 9X/NT/2000/XP independent installation packages, NT4 needs to be pre patched with SP4 patch; Reminder: Coexistence of multiple PCI graphics cards may result in blue screens. It is recommended to disable the onboard graphics card;

3. Dual network card driver (82562/82540): Manual update steps for Win versions, NT requires creating a driver floppy disk, supporting network card diagnostic tools, and supporting loop testing and speed detection.


Watchdog Development Guide

1. Hardware architecture register description and two-level timeout logic;
