7. Core functions dedicated to industrial control

(1) Two level programmable watchdog WDT

-Timing gear: selectable between 1-255 seconds or 1-255 minutes;

-Two level protection logic: timeout triggers NMI unshielded interrupt first, and if there is no dog feeding, the entire machine hardware is reset; The register can read the reset source and distinguish between watchdog restart and normal power on;

-Provide 8086 assembly low-level configuration example code, paired with DOS/Windows testing tools.

(2) SMBus system hardware monitoring

Based on the I2C bus, real-time monitoring of various power supply voltages, CPU/chassis temperatures, three-way fan speeds, and chassis lid opening events; The power failure of the lid opening signal can be locked, and the alarm needs to be cleared by software.

(3) Reset dual mechanism

-Hard reset: Cut off all peripheral clocks and restart the entire machine completely;

-Soft reset: Only reset the CPU core, keep external devices such as hard drives/network cards running;

Reset source: panel reset button CTRL+ALT+DEL、 Watchdog, ICH2 register instruction.

Jumper and hardware configuration

The whole machine only has one set of core jumper JP1: clear CMOS (2-3 short circuited for 2 seconds to clear BIOS settings, 1-2 is in normal mode);

All other functions (serial port mode, video memory size, boot options, interrupt allocation) are configured in the Award Phoenix BIOS software;

The document comes with a full motherboard connector point map, indicating the physical positions of all pins from CN1 to CN33.


BIOS Settings Overview

Phoenix Award PnP Flash BIOS (512KB firmware hub), press Del to enter the settings menu when booting up, core functions:

1. Standard CMOS: system time, hard disk automatic recognition, boot sequence;

2. Chipset settings: DDR timing, AGP memory allocation, hardware monitoring threshold;

3. Integrated peripherals: IDE/serial/parallel/USB/Ethernet switch;

4. Power management: multi-level sleep mode, WOL remote power on, fan temperature control;

5. PnP resources: IRQ/DMA manual allocation to resolve ISA card conflicts;

6. Startup function: PCIe network diskless boot, boot password, virus protection;

Complete driver step-by-step installation

The supporting driver CD supports Windows 95/98/ME/NT4.0/2000/XP, and is divided into three categories of drivers for complete installation process:

Intel 845 chipset INF driver: To repair PCI/AGP resources, it must be installed first and provide a one click setup program;

2. SiS305 graphics card driver: divided into 9X/NT/2000/XP independent installation packages, NT4 needs to be pre patched with SP4 patch; Reminder: Coexistence of multiple PCI graphics cards may result in blue screens. It is recommended to disable the onboard graphics card;

3. Dual network card driver (82562/82540): Manual update steps for Win versions, NT requires creating a driver floppy disk, supporting network card diagnostic tools, and supporting loop testing and speed detection.


Watchdog Development Guide

1. Hardware architecture register description and two-level timeout logic;

2. Example of low-level assembly configuration source code, showing the complete process of 15 second timeout reset;

3. Equipped with cross platform testing programs, it can be directly embedded into industrial control monitoring software to achieve automatic restart in case of system failure.
