Product Overview
The Anybus X-gateway is an industrial protocol gateway launched by HMS Industrial Networks. Based on patented Anybus technology, it enables transparent data forwarding between two different industrial networks and supports multiple combinations of master/slave/Ethernet without the need for dedicated configuration software. It can be configured through RS232 serial port and general terminal software.
Core structure: Two Anybus-S network interface cards are integrated internally, and data is forwarded bidirectionally through an intelligent gateway platform.
Target audience: Engineering personnel familiar with industrial networks and communication systems.
Document description: Only general functions are explained, network specific features need to refer to the "Interface Appendix".
Installation and Hardware
Installation method
DIN rail installation, the rail must be connected to * * protective grounding (PE) * * to ensure EMC performance.
Installation steps: Align the buckle → Press the upper part → Close the lower part; Disassemble in reverse operation.

Top: Power interface, network interface.
Bottom: RS232 configuration interface (DB9 male).
Basic operational functions
Data exchange mechanism
The dual network interfaces each have a sending and receiving buffer, and the gateway independently completes data forwarding without a network synchronization mechanism.
Maximum data volume in one direction: 512 bytes, actual capacity determined by network type.
Data types: periodic I/O data (high-speed), non periodic parameter data (low-speed).
Status and Diagnosis
Status word (16 bits): disabled by default, can be enabled through configuration.
Bit15~12: Gateway cycle counter (+1 for each successful forwarding).
Bit11~8: Universal error counter (forwarding timeout 100ms+1).
Bit2: Initialization status (1=success/0=failure).
Bit1: Running status (1=online/0=offline).
Live List: Only supported in main station mode, monitoring the status of slave stations 1-64. Bit=1 indicates that the slave station is online.
network control
Control word: disabled by default, used for remote control of the gateway.
Reset bit: Set to 1 to restart the gateway and reinitialize the dual interfaces.
Main station mode: Set the main station operation mode (network specific).
data mapping
Slave slave mode: bidirectional mapping of status words, I/O data, and parameter data.
Master slave mode: Add online list transmission.
Fault handling
When the peer network is offline, data can be configured to either Freeze or Clear.

Safety and Compliance
Product grade: Class A product, which may cause radio frequency interference in household environments.
ESD Attention: The product contains static sensitive components, and anti-static measures are required during operation.
Grounding requirement: It is necessary to connect the protective grounding through a DIN rail to ensure EMC performance.
Responsibility statement: Users must ensure that the application complies with security regulations and standards.
Key issues
Question 1: How does the Anybus X-gateway gateway enter configuration mode and what are the core communication parameters?
answer:
Entry method: Use a standard null modem cable to connect the RS232 configuration port at the bottom of the gateway to the computer COM port ->Open the super terminal to establish a connection ->Power on the gateway, wait for the startup to complete and display "Press ESC to enter configuration interface" ->Press the ESC key to enter the main menu.
Core parameters: baud rate 57600, 8 data bits, no checksum, 1 stop bit, no flow control, must be strictly matched for normal communication.
Question 2: What key information does the gateway status word contain, and what are the functions and limitations of the Live List?
answer:
Key information of the status word: including gateway cycle counter (number of successful data forwarding attempts), general error counter (number of forwarding timeouts), initialization status bit (whether the peer interface is initialized successfully), and running status bit (whether the peer network is online), used for real-time diagnosis of communication status.
Function of online list: Only supported by master station models, used to monitor the online status of slave stations. Each bit corresponds to a slave station, and Bit=1 indicates slave station activation.
Restrictions: Only supports slave stations 1 to 64, and the excess cannot be displayed; EtherNet/IP master station does not have this list, use connection statistics instead.
Question 3: What is the complete process of modifying the length of gateway I/O data, and why does it need to be restarted after modification?
answer:
Complete process: Enter the main menu → Press 6 to enter configuration modification → Set the number of I/O bytes for the upper and lower network inputs/outputs separately → Use+/- to set offline options → Enable/Disable control/status words → Confirm saving configuration → Prompt whether to restart, press Y to confirm restart.
Reason for restart: After modifying the gateway configuration, it is necessary to reinitialize the dual network interface and data buffer, establish a new data mapping relationship, and the new I/O length setting can only take effect.
