BECKHOFF CX2100-0014 Embedded Power Unit User Manual

Beifu CX2100-0014 Embedded Power Unit User Manual, aimed at automation professionals, comprehensively introduces the rail mounted power supply compatible with CX2000 series embedded PCs, covering safety specifications, product parameters, installation and wiring, configuration and debugging, fault diagnosis, disassembly and scrapping, certification, and after-sales service.

Transportation and Storage

Transportation: The equipment is resistant to vibration but not strong impact. It is recommended to use the original packaging; A large temperature difference can easily cause condensation, and if condensation occurs, it needs to be left to stand for more than 12 hours before powering on.

Storage: Store in a dry environment with a temperature range of -40 ℃ to+85 ℃, and prioritize retaining the original factory packaging.

Physical specifications: Size 60 × 100 × 91 mm, weight 550 g.

Product Overview

4.1 Product positioning and same series models

CX2100-0014 is a CX2000 series embedded PC dedicated power supply, which comes with passive heat dissipation and can automatically recognize K-bus/E-bus two types of buses. There are 4 power supplies in the same series, with the following functional distinctions:

CX2100-0004: Supports automatic switching of K/E bus, without heat dissipation or UPS;

CX2100-0014: Supports automatic switching of K/E bus and passive cooling (product in this document);

CX2100-0904: Supports K/E bus automatic switching+integrated capacitive UPS;

CX2100-0914: Supports automatic switching of K/E bus and external battery charging UPS.

At the same time, the document specifies the compatibility list between the power supply and the entire series of embedded PCs such as CX2020/CX2030/CX2040/CX2042. Some models can only be used in conjunction with a load of ≤ 45W.

4.2 Hardware Structure and Nameplate

Machine components: Multi pin interconnect interface, passive heat dissipation hole, 2-row 16 character backlit FSTN LCD display, navigation buttons (up, down, left, right+confirm), power terminal, bus interface, diagnostic LED, grounding terminal, rail unlock buckle, etc.

Nameplate information: Mark UL certification, CE certification, model, serial number, hardware version, production date, manufacturer information, etc., which is the basis for maintenance and compliance.

4.3 Core electrical parameters

Input voltage: 24 V DC (allowable fluctuation -15%~+20%);

Maximum output power: 130 W, self power consumption ≤ 3.5 W;

Bus power supply: E/K bus maximum 10 W (5 V/2 A);

Maximum current of terminal contact: 10A;

Insulation strength: 500 V;

Working temperature: -25 ℃~+60 ℃, humidity ≤ 95% (no condensation);

Compliance standards: Vibration, impact, and EMC all comply with the corresponding EN standards;

Bus capacity: K-bus has a maximum of 64 terminals (255 after expansion), and E-bus has a maximum of 65534 terminals.

Installation and commissioning (power on and put into use)

5.1 Mechanical Installation

Module splicing: Align the power supply multi pin interface with the CX2000 embedded PC tail interface and insert it. Install the buckle strip for reinforcement to resist vibration and impact.

Installation posture and ventilation

Support installation of both horizontal and vertical guide rails; Models with fans have fewer installation restrictions;

A 30mm ventilation gap must be reserved above and below the equipment, and it is forbidden to cover the heat dissipation holes;

The control cabinet needs temperature control and heat dissipation to avoid heat accumulation inside the cabinet.

Rail specifications: compatible with TS35/7.5 and TS35/15 standard DIN rails, unlock the buckle during installation, and re lock after inserting into the rail.

Terminal installation taboos: Passive EtherCAT terminals (such as EL9195) must not be installed directly against the power supply, as it can interfere with E-bus signals. Passive terminals can be identified in TwinCAT.

5.2 Wiring specifications

Wiring premise: Power off operation throughout the entire process, following the EN 60204-1 PELV standard, with a power supply of 0V and equal potential to the protective ground.

Cable requirements: wire diameter of 0.5~2.5 mm ² (AWG20~14), stripped length of 8~9 mm; spring type terminals are used, and wires can be inserted by pressing the socket with a tool.

Differentiate between two power supplies

Us 24V: provides power for embedded PCs and bus systems;

Up 24V: Provides power to bus terminals and external sensors/actuators.

Operation taboos: When cutting off power, only disconnect the 24V positive pole. It is strictly prohibited to disconnect the ground wire to avoid damage to the equipment due to stray currents.

UL compliance requirements: External 24V power supplies must be equipped with a maximum 4A fuse or use NEC Class 2 isolated power supplies. Multiple Class 2 power supplies cannot be connected in series/parallel.

5.3 Display Screen and Button Configuration

LCD display: 2 lines x 16 characters, supports ASCII/ISO 8859-1 characters, backlight can be turned on/off, flashing reminder, and cursor, clear screen, and text display can be controlled through software.

Key definitions: Up (4), Down (8), Left (16), Right (32), Confirm (64), supports single/combination keys, and the key status can be read and judged in the PLC.

Software control mode

Tools: TwinCAT System Manager, PLC Function Block;

Special function blocks: FB_CXSetTextDisplayUSB (write text), FB_CXGetTextDisplayUSB (read status), compatible with TC2.11 R3, TC3.1 and above versions;

Communication: Based on ADS and CoE protocols, display content, backlight, cursor, start stop menu, etc. can be configured.

EtherCAT CoE Protocol: Introduction to Object Dictionary PDO、SDO、 The startup list and other functions support online/offline parameter configuration, and parameter modifications can be saved after power failure.

EtherCAT state machine: supports five working states: Init, Pre op, Safe op, Op, and Boot, with different communication permissions corresponding to different states.

Example program: Provide complete PLC code to demonstrate practical logic such as key reading, display screen reading and writing, cursor/backlight control, etc.

Fault diagnosis and troubleshooting

6.1 Indicator light description

Universal LED

Us 24V/Up 24V: The green light is always on, indicating that the corresponding power supply is normal;

K-bus mode indicator light

K-BUS RUN (green): Always on=bus communication is normal;

K-BUS ERR (red): flashing=bus fault;

E-bus mode indicator light

L/A light: off=bus not connected; Always on=Connected with no data; Flashing=normal data transmission.

6.2 K-bus fault diagnosis

Fault coding rule: The red light flashes rapidly as the starting point, the first slow flash=fault code, and the second slow flash=fault location.

Common faults and solutions: EMC interference, bus command errors, data line disconnection, abnormal register communication, initialization failure, etc. The document corresponds to the fault symptoms, causes, and solutions one by one.

PLC diagnosis: It can read the K-bus status register, determine the fault type (bus error, process data exception, watchdog fault, etc.) through bits, and support software reset of the bus.

6.3 E-bus malfunction

Determine the status of the link and equipment by combining the L/A indicator light status with the TwinCAT equipment list and terminal current consumption values.

Shutdown, disassembly, and scrapping

Shutdown process: First shut down the embedded PC → cut off the 24V power supply → remove the data cable, power cable, and grounding wire in sequence.

Module disassembly: Unlock the rail buckle → Remove the entire set of equipment → Remove the buckle strip → Separate the power supply from the embedded PC, and do not forcefully plug or unplug the interface.

Scrap disposal: After the equipment is completely disassembled, electronic components are strictly recycled in accordance with local electronic waste regulations.
