ABB DO02 Octal SPST Relay Module 

Product Description

The DO02 device is a versatile and easy-to-use octal high-current high-voltage SPST (single pole single throw) relay module. Every of  the eight channels can individually be opened or closed.

Electrical or electro-pneumatic valves, heaters or AC / DC motors and  other high-power devices of up to 120 W / 250 VA can be controlled  with the DO02 device.

The versatility and the straightforward usability make the device ideal for industrial applications as well as for scientific experiments. 

Module core functions and classification

(1) Core functional positioning

DO02, as a universal digital output module, is used to convert the digital signals of the controller into industrial grade output signals and drive field actuators. Its key functions include:

Multi channel output: A single module contains 2 independent output channels, with electrical isolation between channels (supported by some models) to avoid interference between channels;

Output protection: Integrated overcurrent protection and short-circuit protection functions, some models support automatic overload recovery to prevent actuator failure from damaging the module;

Status indication: Each channel is equipped with LED indicator lights, which provide real-time feedback on the output status (such as "ON" on, "OFF" off), facilitating on-site fault diagnosis;

Industrial compatibility: Supports wide temperature range operation, adapts to harsh industrial environments such as dust and vibration, and outputs voltage/current that meet the requirements of mainstream industrial actuators.

(2) Model classification and differences

The DO02 series is subdivided into models based on output type (transistor/relay), supply voltage, and isolation method. The core differences are as follows (taking typical models marked in the document as an example):

Isolation voltage between channels/channel to ground: 2.5kV AC (1 minute, compliant with IEC 61131-2 standard)

Protection function: overcurrent protection (independent for each channel, triggering threshold 1.2A ± 10%), short circuit protection (self recovery)

(2) Signal characteristics

Control signal input: compatible with TTL/CMOS levels (logic 0:0~0.8V DC, logic 1:2.4~5V DC), input impedance ≥ 10k Ω;

Response time: transistor output ≤ 10 μ s (ON/OFF delay), relay output ≤ 10ms (ON delay)/≤ 5ms (OFF delay);

Output voltage drop: When the transistor outputs at full load, the voltage drop is ≤ 0.5V (low loss, reducing heat generation), and the voltage drop at the relay output contact is ≤ 50mV.


Mechanical specifications and installation requirements

(1) Physical dimensions and weight

DO02 adopts a compact DIN rail design, suitable for industrial standard installation space:

Installation method: snap on DIN rail installation (35mm galvanized steel rail), can be fixed without tools, supports horizontal/vertical installation (vertical installation requires confirmation of heat dissipation conditions);

Wiring method: Back screw terminal (M3 screw), supporting wire specifications of 0.2~1.5mm ² (24~16 AWG), terminal torque of 0.5~0.8 N · m, anti loosening design;

Wiring requirements: It is recommended to use shielded wires for output lines (to reduce electromagnetic interference), with a distance of ≥ 100mm from power cables, to avoid cross wiring.

The DO02 module meets the requirements for operating in harsh industrial environments, with the following core environmental parameters:

Vibration resistance of 10-500Hz, acceleration of 10g (compliant with IEC 60068-2-6 standard, non operating state)

Anti impact 50g acceleration (11ms pulse, in accordance with IEC 60068-2-27 standard, non operating state)

Protection level IP20 (module body, to be installed in control cabinets with protection level IP54 or above)

(2) Compliance certification

The module has been certified for safety and electromagnetic compatibility in multiple regions, ensuring compliance for industrial applications worldwide

Safety certification CE certification (compliant with EN 61010-1 standard, industrial control equipment safety), UL 61010-1 certification (North American market)

Environmental compliance complies with the RoHS directive (restricting harmful substances such as lead and mercury), and some models support halogen free design


Key usage precautions

Load matching: The output current should be ≤ the rated value of the module, and the relay output should confirm the maximum switching voltage/current of the contacts (such as 250V AC/2A) to avoid contact burnout caused by excessive use;

Heat dissipation requirements: The transistor output module will generate heat when running at full load, and a gap of ≥ 5mm should be reserved during installation to avoid being adjacent to other high heat generating devices (such as power modules);

Isolation requirement: Although the module has isolation function, it is recommended to use independent grounding for control signals and output signals to reduce grounding loop interference;

Troubleshooting: If there is no response from the output, priority should be given to checking: ① whether the power supply voltage is normal; ② Whether the control signal meets the level requirements; ③ Whether the load is short circuited (whether overcurrent protection is triggered).
