ABB EPIC II V4550220-0100 Drive Controller
How to use this manual The purpose of this manual is to provide detailed information aboutthe different types of 12 – pulse converter configurations, their operation principles, their various applications, the required
hardware/software/parameters and the start up of a 12 – pulse configuration consisting of DCS 600 series thyristor power converters.
Note: All details given in this manual are valid for DCS 600
series converters even if not explicitly mentioned!
Contents of this manual Chapter 1 – Introduction
This chapter describes how to use this manual and the available
associated publications.
Chapter 2 – Twelve–Pulse Technology
This chapter defines 12 – pulse technology and describes the advantages and types of 12 – pulse configurations as well as the
T-reactors and the power transformers to be used. Also information
about earth fault monitoring, control, trip emergency operation is
given.
Chapter 3 – Twelve–Pulse Parallel
Configurations with DCS 600
This chapter describes the 12 – pulse hardware configurations and
control structure using DC thyristor power converters of the
DCS 600 series in parallel connection. It also informs about the
software configuration, the 12 – pulse communication via SDCSCON-2 channel V260, the 12 – pulse configuration (activation of
12 – pulse mode) as well as monitoring and fault signals. The functional description gives details concerning switch-on/-off logic, dynamic response, current controller, measuring the DC voltage and
bridge reversal.
Chapter 4 – Twelve–Pulse Serial / Sequential
Configurations with DCS 600
This chapter describes the 12 – pulse hardware configurations and
control structures using DC thyristor power converters of the
DCS 600 series in serial/sequential connection. The chapter also
informs about the software configuration, the 12 – pulse communication via SDCS-CON-2 channel V260, the 12 – pulse configuration
(activation of 12 – pulse mode) as well as monitoring and fault signals. The functional description gives details concerning
switch-on/-off logic, dynamic response, bridge ratings, bridge reversal, current controller and DC voltage measurement

Chapter 5 – Parameters for 12 – Pulse Operation
This chapter gives information about the list of parameters for
6 - pulse operation with DCS 600 (included in the separate Software Description DCS 600). As far as special parameters for
12 – pulse operation with DCS 600 are concerned please refer
to the corresponding Chapters within this manual.
Chapter 6 – Start–Up Instructions
This chapter provides detailed information on how to start up the
different 12 – pulse configurations with thyristor power converters of
the DCS 600 series.
Target group This manual is designed to help those who are responsible for
planning, installing, starting up and servicing the thyristor power
converter.
These people should possess
