Eaton CROUSE-HINDS MTL MA30 RF and Surge Protector Operation Manual

Product Overview

Positioning: Suitable for urban power supply systems, supporting DIN rail installation/wall mounted integrated protective equipment.

Core function: Adopting a three-level composite protection structure, it has the functions of filtering, surge protection, and harmonic suppression, protecting electrical equipment from the impact of mains surges and RF interference.

Design lifespan: Under normal operating conditions, it can achieve 20 years of maintenance free service; Equipped with fail safe design in the event of over rated surge impact, it can sustainably ensure the safety of backend equipment.

Installation method

DIN rail installation: compatible with 35mm standard rails (compliant with EN50022, DIN46277-2 standards), the equipment can be directly fastened.

Wall mounted installation: With matching brackets, use No. 10 fasteners to fix the wall.

Wiring terminal: using screw crimping terminal, compatible with a maximum wire specification of 10 AWG (cross-sectional area of 5.2mm ²).

Wiring method

The equipment is divided into two wiring modes: series and parallel, suitable for different load conditions:

Series connection method (conventional)

Applicable scenario: Load current ≤ 30A.

Connection method: Connect one end of the mains power line to the equipment, and connect the protected equipment to the other end; Fuses/circuit breakers must be installed on the incoming side, with rated values matching the load current.

Parallel connection method

Applicable scenario: Load current>30A.

Connection method: The equipment is connected in parallel in the mains circuit and does not carry load current; The live wire (L) circuit must be equipped with a 30A overcurrent protection device (fuse/circuit breaker).

Wiring specifications

Connect the live wire to terminal L and the neutral wire to terminal N, and the polarity must be correct.

If there is no dual core cable with built-in ground wire, the grounding terminal E should be reliably connected to the system grounding point to ensure complete protection effect.

Remote indication function

The equipment is equipped with three remote indication interfaces, which can monitor protector faults and power outage status; The contact is of type C, with rated parameters of AC 230V/3A and DC 250V. It can be connected to energy management systems, monitoring systems, or optional remote monitoring units (RMUs).

Safety regulations and warnings

(1) High risk warning

There is a risk of explosion: equipment and wiring can only be disassembled after power failure or confirmation that the site is a non hazardous area.

(2) General safety requirements

Before installation and dismantling operations, the power supply must be cut off, and the operation must be completed by qualified professionals to prevent electric shock and fire risks.

The rated value of overcurrent protection devices (fuses/circuit breakers) shall be the minimum of the following three values: the nominal maximum value of the equipment, the short-circuit current of the power supply system, and the rated value of the protected equipment, with selection examples attached.

The power supply voltage shall not exceed the maximum working voltage of the protector; When using UPS and backup generators, special attention should be paid to equipment voltage regulation and neutral grounding configuration.

It is strictly prohibited to wire the equipment with excessive polarity. Before wiring, check the polarity of the power supply and protector.

(3) Testing precautions

Before conducting insulation and voltage flashover tests on the entire equipment, MA30 must be disconnected from the circuit to avoid equipment damage.

Maintenance instructions

The lifespan of equipment protection depends on the number of times it is subjected to surges, and it can be maintained free for 20 years during regular use.

When the surge exceeds the rated parameters of the equipment, the built-in secondary protection structure will trigger the fail safe mode, and the backend equipment can still be protected.

This product can limit the line to line and line to ground voltage, and all system insulation tests require disconnecting this equipment.
