ABB 2030 and 2050 scientific net zero emission targets have been approved by the Scientific Carbon Target Initiative (SBTi)
ABB is committed to empowering a low-carbon society and has set scientific net zero emission targets that comply with the SBTi net zero standard
Certified by SBTi, it indicates that ABB's carbon reduction targets comply with the latest climate science standards and are consistent with the requirements of the Paris Agreement
ABB appreciates the approval of its emission reduction targets by the Science Carbon Target Initiative (SBTi). ABB is committed to empowering a low-carbon society and has submitted new carbon reduction targets for Scope I, II, and III by 2030 and 2050 to SBTi. ABB's emission reduction targets based on scientific standards have been recognized by SBTi, further indicating that ABB's emission reduction strategy meets the requirements of the Paris Agreement.
SBTi has approved ABB's following objectives:
Short term goals (by 2030):
Based on 2019, reduce ABB's carbon dioxide equivalent emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 80%
Based on 2022, reduce ABB's emissions in Scope 3 by 25%
Long term goal (by 2050):
Based on 2019, reduce ABB's carbon dioxide equivalent emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 100%
Based on 2022, reduce ABB's emissions in Scope 3 by 90%
By 2050, achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain
Anke Hampel, head of sustainable development affairs at ABB Group, said, "As a technology leader in the field of electrical and automation, ABB is one of the core forces driving energy transformation.". We are committed to achieving ABB's emission reduction targets, which are to reduce ABB's Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 80% and 100% respectively from the 2019 benchmark by 2030 and 2050; Currently, we have successfully reduced carbon emissions by 76%. In response to the newly set scope three goals, we will continue to support customers in expanding the scale of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, enhancing electrification levels, and reducing emissions. At the same time, we will actively strengthen collaborative cooperation with upstream and downstream partners in the decarbonization field. ABB's new goals have been recognized by SBTi, indicating that our goals and methods comply with the latest climate science standards
