After five years, the All Electric Formula One Racing Championship has returned to China
On and off the field, ABB technology and solutions help reduce emissions and improve efficiency
China is ABB's second largest global market, and ABB is committed to playing an important role in China's energy transformation and industrial upgrading process
The ABB FIA Formula Electric World Championship will return to China, making its first visit to the Shanghai International Circuit, bringing a feast of passion and speed to the audience.
At that time, 22 drivers will compete on a 3.05-kilometer long track with 12 bends. The design inspiration for its track layout comes from the Chinese character "up", symbolizing a positive and enterprising spirit.
ABB China Chairman Gu Chunyuan said, "The return of the ABB FIA Formula Electric World Championship to China is very encouraging. Since its first competition held in Beijing in 2014, ABB Formula Electric has continued to showcase the infinite potential of electrification and sustainable transportation to the world.". In China, ABB actively promotes industrial upgrading and energy transformation, providing leading power and automation solutions for numerous projects, helping them improve electrification levels, enhance energy efficiency, and reduce carbon emissions
In the previous season, ABB showcased its innovative ABB AbilityTM OPTIMAX ® The energy management software solution is applied to the FE Formula Electric World Championship, helping to significantly improve the energy efficiency of the competition venue. Outside the arena, this technology is also applied to a wider range of industrial and energy fields. A renowned university located in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area is fully tapping into the energy cost advantages of local power plant steam supply, cold storage, and peak valley electricity prices at different time periods when constructing a comprehensive campus energy station. Dynamic optimization technology is used to create a multi energy complementary operation mode of centralized cooling. ABB OPTIMAX ® dynamically predicts load demand through weather forecasts and optimizes energy supply in real-time to balance cooling demand in an economical manner.
China is ABB's second largest global market, accounting for 14% of ABB Group's 2023 sales revenue. Since 1992, ABB has invested over 3 billion US dollars in China. ABB's major investments in recent years include the Shanghai ABB Robotics Super Factory, ABB Electric Transportation China Headquarters, and ABB Xiamen Industrial Center, providing strong support for China's energy transformation and industrial upgrading.
The ABB Xiamen Industrial Center's "Green Microgrid" project is a model of green and low-carbon energy transformation. By implementing ABB's global "Zero Emission Vision Plan," the project can reduce carbon emissions by 13400 tons per year. The center has ABB's globally leading production line for medium and low voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, and has achieved approximately 50% green power substitution through the installation of 100000 square meters of photovoltaic panels.
ABB also helps Beijing Beikong Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions in the new waste incineration power generation project in Zhangjiagang Venous Technology Industrial Park. The efficient frequency converter provided by ABB will increase energy efficiency by about 30%, supporting the project to save over 120000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 300000 tons annually after production.
ABB's commitment to energy efficiency and carbon reduction is also reflected in the automotive industry. ABB will provide over 1300 robots and functional packages to Volvo Cars to assist in the manufacturing of the next generation of electric vehicles. ABB's brand new OmniCore ™ The controller will help Volvo cars achieve up to 20% energy savings. During the deployment process of robots, ABB will use its RobotStudio ® Offline programming simulation software is used for planning, simulating and optimizing robot deployment before installing robots to ensure uninterrupted production. This project covers functional packages for various production processes, from spot welding, riveting, and gluing, to flow drilling and ultrasonic welding testing. Each feature pack is customer validated and includes a plug and play combination of hardware, software, and services, which will be deployed at Volvo Cars production bases in Daqing, China and Toleslanda, Sweden.
