Product Name: ECS-8582-4S Notebook ExpressCard External 4-slot PCI Expansion System

EC-8560 (notebook ExpressCard adapter card)

Detailed layout of hardware components, interfaces, and jumpers

(1) EC-8560 (notebook end)

ExpressCard/34 in appearance, equipped with a metal fixed bracket (ExpressCard/54 laptop must be added);

External DB type cable interface, with locking screws to secure the extension cable; No onboard jumpers, only link indicator lights.

(2) PCI-8565 (bridge card inside the chassis)

CN1: PCIe extension cable interface; D1: Link status green light;

JP1: Remote ATX power on/off pin, which can be externally connected to control the power on of the chassis;

JP2: Spread spectrum clock SSC jumper

Complete installation process (mandatory requirement for anti-static)

The entire process must be grounded with anti-static wristbands and anti-static pads, and bare hands are prohibited from touching the chip's gold fingers.

Step 1: Installation of EC-8560 on laptop end

The laptop is completely powered off;

Lock the extension cable to the EC-8560 interface;

Install a metal bracket on the ExpressCard/54 model and insert it into the notebook's Express card slot; The 34 model can be directly inserted.

Step 2: Installation of PCI board in the chassis

Power off the chassis and remove the top cover;

Choose one of the four idle PCI slots to install the target acquisition/motion card, and fix the baffle with screws;

Close the cover plate of the computer case and tighten the screws.

Step 3: Connect the cables of the entire machine

Lock the other end of the extension cable to the CN1 interface of PCI-8565 inside the chassis, tighten all screws on both ends, and confirm that the cable is not loose before powering on.

Step 4: Strictly follow the power on/off sequence (key, avoid blue screen and hardware damage)

Power on sequence: Turn on the RK-8005 chassis power first → then start the laptop

Principle: BIOS startup scans the PCI bus, and the chassis must be powered on in advance for the bridging devices to be allocated IRQ and IO resources by the system.

Shutdown sequence: First shut down the laptop system and power off → then turn off the power to the chassis

It is strictly prohibited to disconnect cables or turn off the power supply of the laptop during operation, as it may cause system crashes, data loss, or even damage to the PCI board.

Indicator light status judgment

The green LINK light is constantly on, indicating that the cable connection is normal and the PCIe link handshake is successful; If the link is disconnected or the chassis is not powered on, it will turn off.

Troubleshooting FAQ

Q: The longest extension distance?

A: Standard configuration is 3m, optional 7m, and the cable is uniformly shielded. It cannot be replaced by self-made ordinary network cable/serial port cable.

Q: Do you need additional drivers?

A: No need, the hardware is a standard PCIe to PCI transparent bridge with native recognition by the operating system.

Q: Can a laptop accommodate multiple expansion cases?

A: The single ExpressCard interface only supports one chassis; Multiple chassis require multiple ExpressCard slots for laptops.

Q: How to handle if the system cannot recognize the PCI board?

Troubleshooting steps:

① Confirm the power on sequence (chassis first, laptop later);

② Check if the cables at both ends are locked and if the LINK light is on;

③ Update the laptop BIOS, turn off unnecessary peripherals built into the motherboard to release IRQ resources;

④ Check conflicts one by one on a single PCI card; Recommend Intel 945/965 and updated chipset laptops.

Q: What should I do if there is significant electromagnetic interference?

A: Switch the PCI-8565 JP2 jumper to enable SSC spread spectrum clock mode.


Safety operation standards

Before installing, plugging and unplugging cables, or replacing boards, the entire machine must be powered off;

The equipment should be kept away from liquids, high temperatures, and dust, and the ventilation openings should not be obstructed;

Only the original 200W matching power supply is allowed, and it is prohibited to replace non-standard power supplies;
