Product Overview
M-3430 is a universal generator comprehensive protection relay developed by Beckwith based on microprocessor and digital signal processing DSP technology. It integrates 15 sets of standard ANSI protection functions, including measurement, waveform recording, event SOE, communication, and logic control, and is suitable for large, medium, and small turbine/hydro generators; Made in the United States, with two US patents and a 5-year warranty for the entire machine, it has passed the complete set of power relay protection safety standards of cULus, IEC, and IEEE. It is installed in a standard 19 inch 3U rack and supports two specifications: 50/60Hz and 1A/5A CT. Optional supporting components include redundant power supply, local human-machine HMI, fault optical target module, waveform recording analysis software, etc.

15 standard ANSI protection functions (including setting range and accuracy)
1. 21 Dual phase to phase distance protection (backup for phase to phase faults)
Double offset Mohorz impedance circle, independently set in sections I and II;
Impedance diameter: 0.1~100 Ω (0.5~500 Ω for 1A models), step size 0.1 Ω;
Offset: -100~100 Ω; Impedance angle 0~90 °;
Delay 1~8160 cycles, accuracy ± 1% or ± 3 cycles.
2. 24 over excitation protection (V/Hz)
Distinguish between fixed time limit, 4 inverse time limit curves, and two-level starting values;
Starting multiple of 100-200% rated V/Hz, supporting 1-999 second reset timing, covering protection against overexcitation damage to the generator core.
3. 32 dual fixed value sensitive reverse power protection
Dual stage active direction criterion, used for unit program tripping and motor protection conditions;
Active power per unit value -3.000~+3.000PU, with the ability to achieve batch splitting through graded delay.
4. 40 Double offset Mjolz demagnetization protection
Positive sequence voltage blocking double impedance zone, distinguishing between partial demagnetization and complete demagnetization, to prevent system oscillation misoperation; Two independent delays.
5.46 Negative sequence overcurrent protection (alarm+trip dual logic)
Core protection for rotor overheating, starting at 3-100% rated current, equipped with inverse time rotor heat accumulation timing.
6. 50BF generator circuit breaker failure protection
Fault current detection failure, external tripping input linkage, delayed by 1~8160 cycles.
7. 50/27 accidental power on protection
Low voltage lockout sudden current is applied to prevent accidental closing of the generator outlet switch in the turning/shutdown state.
8. Low voltage and overvoltage protection at the 27/59 machine end
Divided into two algorithms: RMS full waveform and DF fundamental wave, each with two independent fixed values, covering unit no-load and grid connected abnormal voltage conditions.
9. 27TN/59N 100% stator third harmonic grounding protection
Utilizing the third harmonic voltage of the neutral point to achieve zero dead zone protection for the grounding of the entire stator winding, with two independent fixed values.
10. 60FL PT fuse breakage detection
Based on positive and negative sequence voltage and current, PT disconnection is determined, and various voltage related protections are locked to prevent misoperation, and alarm contacts can be output.
11. 81 Four band frequency protection (over frequency/low frequency)
4 sets of independent frequency settings, 40~57Hz for 50Hz models and 57~63Hz for 60Hz models, used for overspeed, low-frequency load shedding, and disconnection.
12.87 Generator Longitudinal Differential Protection
The main protection for internal short circuit of the generator can be set to the minimum starting current, 1-100% braking slope, and the fastest action is 1.5 cycles.
13. External Protection Extension (EXT)
6-way programmable input contacts can be connected to external protection devices (such as grounding transformers and excitation protection) to achieve unified event recording and trip output.
Universal measurement, waveform recording, and event storage functions
1. High precision real-time measurement
Collect three-phase/zero sequence voltage, three-phase/zero sequence current, positive and negative sequence components, active/reactive/apparent power, power factor, impedance, and frequency;
Voltage accuracy: ± 0.5V or 0.5%;
5A CT current ± 0.1A, 1A CT ± 0.02A;
Power ± 0.01PU, rated frequency range frequency deviation ± 0.02Hz.
2. Fault recording Oscillograph
Sampling rate: 16 points per cycle;
Total storage of 170 cycles waveform, supporting 1/2/3/4 partition and segmented storage;
Trigger conditions: protection action, external input, remote communication command;
Continuous caching before and after faults, customizable recording duration after triggering, waveform exported and analyzed through software.
3. Event Target Storage
Up to 32 fault records with IRIG-B millisecond time stamps can be saved, each containing: action protection, startup status, input/output displacement, current and voltage at the time of fault, timer status. The panel Target light indicates the fault and can be manually reset.

Hardware input/output configuration
1. Analog sampling input
4-channel voltage input: 60~140Vac, withstand 240V long-term, 360V 10s, PT load<0.2VA; supports ABC/ACB phase sequence switching;
7-way current CT: standard 5A/optional 1A, long-term rated twice, 1-second withstand 100 times rated, CT load is extremely low.
2. Digital input (6 programmable dry contacts)
Internal 24V wet contact, minimum operating current of 25mA; can be used for: protection locking, waveform recording triggering, circuit breaker position of 52B, external protection access.
3. Programmable output contacts (8 in total)
6-way Form A normally open, 2-channel Form C conversion; All comply with IEEE C37.90 standard; Can be assigned to any protection trip or alarm at will; There are also dedicated alarm contacts for independent power failure and whole machine self check.
4. Communication interface
Front end COM2 RS-232: Local computer debugging;
