Product core positioning and adaptation scenarios
Product type: Medium frequency (30kHz) mini SSBL responder, featuring compact and lightweight design, specially designed for underwater positioning and navigation scenarios that require small and lightweight devices.
Adaptation system: Only compatible with the HiPAP system and HPR series (HPR 300/HPR 400) underwater positioning and navigation systems under the umbrella of Kongsberg.
Core advantage: Reserved sensor expansion capability, supports future installation of various sensors, and has flexible functional expandability.
Core Design and Structural Features
Shell and Protection
The main material is hard anodized aluminum, with a surface coating of polyurethane. It comes standard with a molded protective plastic coating, or an uncoated version is available;
All switches and connectors are recessed into the end caps to enhance equipment protection;
The whole machine comes standard with Pigtail with connectors, no additional optional accessories are needed.
Craftsmanship and Construction
Widely adopting surface mount technology, all hardware is integrated into two circuit boards, greatly improving equipment reliability while reducing spare parts reserve requirements;
Adopting modular construction, electronic components, battery packs, transducers, and end caps can all be easily replaced separately, making maintenance and component upgrades convenient.
interface configuration
Responder connector: Subcom MCBH5M (5-pin);
Tail fiber connector: Subcom MCIL5F (5-pin), 5-pin corresponds to external trigger/charger LED1, grounding, charger power supply, external power/charger LED2, and on/off function.
Core functions and performance parameters
Core functional characteristics
Equipped with an external selection switch, it can adapt to different channels of HiPAP system/HPR 400 and HPR 300;
The operator can manually select the sound source level and optimize the battery life as needed (the internal link can reduce the sound source level by 6dB to extend battery life);
The operator can manually select the receiving sensitivity, with a basic receiving sensitivity of 100 dB (rel. 1 µ Pa), and the internal link can reduce the sensitivity by 10 dB;
Support fast battery charging (only compatible with nickel hydrogen rechargeable batteries);
When connected to an external 22-26 Vdc (40 W) power supply, both the responder and responder functions can be achieved simultaneously.
Basic performance parameters
There are clear differences in size and weight among the three responders, as shown in the table below:
|Responder model | total length | weight in air/water | external diameter|
| MST 319 | 348 mm | 2.4kg / 1kg | 76 mm |
| MST 324 | 368 mm | 2.7kg / 1.2kg | 76 mm |
| MST 342 | 349 mm | 4.1kg / 2.0kg | 85 mm |

Model coding rules
The responder model consists of a prefix, a number, and a suffix, with each part representing a fixed meaning that can quickly identify device parameters. For example, MST 319/N represents the 30kHz frequency band, 1000 meter depth level, ± 90 ° beamwidth, and mini SSBL responder equipped with nickel hydrogen rechargeable batteries. Specific rules:
Prefix: MST=Mini SSBL responder;
Number 1: Frequency band (3=30 kHz intermediate frequency);
Number 2: Depth level (x 1000 m, such as 1=1000m, 2=2000m, 4=4000m);
Number 3: Beam width;
Suffix: L=Primary Lithium, N=NiMH rechargeable battery.
Full series models: MST 319/N, MST 319/L; MST 324/N、MST 324/L; MST 342/N、MST 342/L。
Battery configuration and performance
The device provides two battery options, lithium primary battery is a disposable battery, nickel hydrogen battery is a rechargeable battery, both with dedicated part numbers, and fast charging only supports nickel hydrogen battery. The performance parameters of the two batteries are shown in the table below:
Battery parameters: Lithium primary battery (L)
Primary Lithium Thionyl Chloride rechargeable battery (N)
NiMH
Part number 499-219504 290-089414
Rest time 40 days (consistent across all models) 20 days (consistent across all models)
Response times MST 319/324: 129600 times; MST 342:64800 times MST 319/324:64800 times; MST 342:32400 times
Charging specifications: Constant current charging method is adopted, with a charging rate of 0.5C (fast charging), and fast charging is only allowed within the range of * * 10 ℃ -40 ℃ * *;
External power supply: The device can be connected to an external * * 22-26 Vdc (40 W) * * power supply to achieve dual function operation.
Supporting Floating Collars
Three devices can be paired with exclusive floating rings, which are divided into two types according to their models, both with fixed depth levels and buoyancy parameters, as follows:
MST 319/MST 324 Universal Floating Ring: Part No. 119-099206, Depth Class 2000 m, Buoyancy 4.5kg/4kg, Cage Height/Diameter 549mm/275mm;
MST 342 specialized floating ring: part number 119-217083, depth level 4000 m, buoyancy 3.5 kg, with cage height/diameter 597mm/290mm.
