Overview

The ABB SPTPS02 Turbine Protection Slave Module is an important part of the Turbine Protection System (TPS) and is usually used in conjunction with the other components of the TPS to provide reliable protection for the safe operation of the turbine.

Functional features

Overspeed protection: When the turbine speed exceeds the overspeed protection setting value, the module can detect it in time and trigger corresponding protective actions, such as closing the high-pressure regulating valve and medium-pressure regulating valve, to prevent the turbine from danger due to overspeed. Generally, the overspeed protection setting value is 103% of the rated speed. When the turbine power exceeds the minimum setting value and the generator oil switch is open, the module will act in advance to prepare for a possible overspeed situation even if the actual speed does not reach the setting value.

In conjunction with other protection systems: it can be operated in conjunction with the low voltage cut-off to activate the high voltage cut-off block to relieve all the valve oil motor oil pressure for tripping protection. The start-up speed of this function is usually set at the same value as that of the low-pressure blocking, which ensures that the turbine can be effectively protected under all kinds of abnormal conditions through this synergistic way of operation.

Power imbalance detection: It can compare the power (electrical load output) of the turbine and the steam discharge pressure (mechanical power input) of the medium-pressure cylinder, and when the mechanical power input exceeds the electrical load output up to a set amount, it will judge that there is a possibility of over speeding of the turbine, and close the medium-pressure regulating valve briefly to balance the power, so as to protect the safe and stable operation of the turbine.

Signal Processing and Transmission: The module makes use of the processor and memory on its own board to process the input data, including collecting, processing and analysing the signals of turbine rotation speed, power, medium-voltage cylinder discharge pressure, power imbalance, turbine trip and oil switch status, etc., and transmits these signals to the multifunctional processor through the extension bus, so as to achieve comprehensive monitoring and control of the turbine operation status.

Triple-redundant input and triple-selective protection logic: Adopting triple-redundant input, i.e. collecting key signals in three ways and then determining the final output result through triple-selective protection logic, which greatly improves the reliability and fault tolerance of the system and ensures that the protection action can be accurately made when some signals are abnormal.

Online test function: with the ability of online test, the various functions of the protection system can be tested and verified without affecting the normal operation of the turbine, so that potential problems can be found and repaired in time, thus improving the availability and maintenance efficiency of the system.
